Thermal comfort has two components:

  • Control of sun heat during the summer months.
  • Reduction of heat loss during the winter months.

Energy or heat loss in winter can be prevented by using window curtains, while also depending on certain parameters:

  • Uws (heat transfer coefficient of the window with curtains),
  • Uw (heat transfer coefficient of the window without curtains),
  • deltaR (additional heat resistance produced by the curtain).

deltaR is calculated using the openness factor (OF = Tvnn) in accordance with EN13125.

For most of our curtains, the deltaR factor = 0.14 m2K/W.

For a single-pane window, the heat loss/transmission is Uw = 5.7 W/m2K. For example, by adding Montecarlo in front of the curtain wall, additional heat resistance is achieved (deltaR = 0.14 m2K/W). The total heat loss/transmission Uws resulting from fitting a Montecarlo-type curtain in front of the window is reduced to Uws = 3.17 W/m2K .
The fitting of a Montecarlo-type curtain - for example - results in a saving of 44%.
