Plain fabrics

Our plain fabrics are uniform in colour.

This is achieved by dyeing the fabric using a dye bath. This also enables us to dye the yarns of the fabric in batches. The use of coloured yarns both in the warp and in the weft is another way of adding colour to a fabric. A multicoloured effect can be achieved by using cationic yarns or multiple coloured yarns in both the warp and weft.

In addition to colour and weight, plain fabrics can also be characterised by their weave: flat weave, twill weave and satin weave. More sophisticated weaves, such as jacquard and damask, can be used to create distinctive patterns and/or textures.

Finally, depending on the weight of the fabric, the weave and the finish, plain fabrics possess the following properties: light filtering, dimout, blackout, variable transparency, water-repellent, anti-bacterial and acoustically treated.

Linings

Using a curtain lining fabric can help to provide additional light proofing, while also having an insulating and acoustic effect. It can also extend the life of the curtains by further preventing discolouration.

Lastly, lining fabrics help curtains to 'fall' nicely and give them more body. Depending on their weight, weave and finish, linings can be classified as light-filtering, dimout or blackout.
